Menyayi (Singing)

One of the best ways to understand the culture of a country would be through music. Different cultures exhibit distinct characteristics when it comes to the music which the people of the country sing and play.

This semester, under the supervision and guidance of Ibu Indrianti, the menyayi (singing) group has prepared three famously known children’s songs, namely Naik Delman (Wagon Ride), Bangun Tidur (Wake Up), Satu Satu (One One). “Why children’s songs?” You may ask, the reason is very simple. It is because children’s songs are really catchy and hence really easy to remember!

In addition, one of the members of the group, Ernest, would be showcasing his singing skills by going solo! He will be singing Laskar Pelangi (The Rainbow Troops), which is the theme song for a 2008 Indonesian film adapted from a popular Indonesian novel of the same name.

The rest of the members are enjoying his performance as well!
The group has also decided to include a short skit into their performance, so as to fully bring out the meaning of the songs.

Adding actions to the songs.

Rehearsing their skit.
Here are some of the responses from the group members when asked about their experience during rehearsals.
“It’s really fun, because I love to sing!”
“Learning new songs in a different language is really hard, but I have really enjoyed the experience.”
“Singing is a fun and interesting way to learn more about the Indonesian culture, and I am really enjoying myself!”

"I really like incoporating actions to our performance, especially for the children's songs, the actions make our performance really funny and enjoyable!"
Anyone would agree that learning new songs, especially in a different language, can pose as a huge challenge. However, the group has put in a whole lot of effort to put up a performance which would be entertaining and enjoyable. So please look forward to the performance which would be put up by the menyayi group during the day of the presentation!
